Embrace your uniqueness : lead and not follow

When I started SkatterbrainN it was supposed to be about anything and everything that inspired me….. hence the name. But I guess I got swept away in the deluge of women’s blogs focusing on beauty and make-up, I ( unconsciously ) went down the same road. But this is it. This is where I move to my true self. Of course I love my fashion and make-up but I know that I am more than that.

I know that I have a lot to say and that I will say through SkatterbrainN. So, if that is not what you signed up for, sorry, this is not the place to be.

Getting back to my point of women’s blogs focusing so much on body image. Is this even healthy? I mean, are we just what we wear? So is the society easily categorised into two? One the awesome people with surfboard abs and two the rest ( who don’t even deserve a description ). Ok, before you think I am some fashion-phobic creep, I am not. As I confessed before, I love carrying myself well. I believe in being unique and I celebrate this idea through my clothes and body. I have always felt that I am the most precious brand that I own and that it is my duty to treat it with respect.

And that is why I feel it is unnecessary to go with the flow and follow the crowd. But hey, if you feel comfortable doing that, please go ahead! But for those of you who want to embrace your uniqueness, do it….. by doing what YOU believe in and believing in what you do! There is nothing sexier than a purpose.

Don’t hit the gym because you see photos of girls with killer-packs and skinny arms getting a thousand likes. Do it if and only if you feel you will be happier that way. Don’t do it because somebody asked you to. Or because you think it will help get you your dream partner. Because it just won’t.

A few days back my friend mentioned a guy who was forcing her to hit the gym. She being a femme fatale shut him up right away because she knew that she did not want to be with a guy who would want her if she lost a few pounds. He is soo not the one. The one is the one who is happy with you and your choices not somebody who puts you through bootcamp ( mental or physical ) to mould you into last month’s Vogue covergirl.

Getting back to my point ( whyyy do I keep deviating???? ) please please remember that the best image is the happy image. It is lovely that there are so many options for us these days telling us what to wear and how to look. But the key is to not lose ourselves in this frantic ocean of changing beauty measures. The winner’s way around here is to always ask yourself what you value the most and adapt everything you chose to fit into your niche ( Never the other way around ). You don’t like people bossing you around do you? Well when you succumb to popular culture over you intuition, you are literally doing that, just in a very passive way. It will gradually spread like slow poison until you become nothing but a mirror reflecting someone else.

So, if you feel happy the way you dress, the way you talk and the way you just are, that is it! That is your brand, your perfect , unique image! You don’t have to try and be like anyone who doesn’t truly inspire you. Because that would be just another futile attempt to play it safe and be mediocre.

Until next time.
